Students of the month spotlight: Ben and Ella Strebeck Ben and Ella have been taking guitar lessons for more than 2 years now! Every week, they meet with Mr.Rob and learn songs and new techniques at their shared lesson. It all started when their grandparents gifted them two guitars. Ben and Ella shared a little bit of their musical journey with us: -What inspired you to learn the guitar? Our grandma and grandpa bought guitars for us to learn how to play together. Our grandpa also plays the guitar. -Tell us more about your lessons at CSM! We enjoy being able to do guitar lessons from home on Skype. Mr. Rob is a great teacher! He is really nice and encouraging. -How does music influence your life? Ella:I like listening to music every chance I get. I use it as a creative outlet to express myself. Ben: I listen to music all the time by myself and with my friends and family. It helps me relax and puts me in a good mood -What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Ella: I enjoy singing, dancing, baking, crafts, and playing board and card games. Ben: In my free time I run, play soccer, basketball, and baseball. I also like to jump on the trampoline and play my PS4 with my friends. CSM is proud of Ben and Ella's accomplishments and we hope they continue making music together! Teacher of the Month: Ms. Julie This month, our teacher of the month spotlight goes to Ms.Julie! She has been teaching at CSM for about 4 years now, and her students really enjoy learning from her!
Originally from Atlanta, GA, she is currently finishing up her Artist Diploma at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also completed her Master’s degree. Ms.Julie completed a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. She is an active and versatile freelancer, performing with regional orchestras in Illinois and Indiana. She has also recorded and performed with pop artists in the Athens and Atlanta area. Ms.Julie believes in taking students from wherever they are - from a total beginner to an adult with childhood music experience to someone with several years of playing under their belt - and working with them in whatever way fits their personality, needs, and pace. There is no timeline, and everyone learns differently! She also tries to instill critical thinking skills by challenging them to think differently about music and helping them figure out practical ways to solve the problems they may encounter. Her hope is that no matter where their musical journey takes them, they will have the tools needed to learn whatever instrument they want and, most importantly, lifelong love and appreciation of music. When she’s not practicing or performing, Ms.Julie enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog (Ginger) and cat (Angelkitty).
